Okay, so it probably wasn't really sad, but the shot really seems like it's sad, eh?
I'm not quite sure what sort of bird it is. It looked kinda like a crow, but I don't think it was one. It was pretty big and make a strange noise that I don't think I've ever heard a bird make before, although I can't recall what it sounded like exactly.
I was so happy when I got this shot! I actually really like it and am pretty proud... (I've been pretty happy with my work lately and that's a bit weird for me)
This shot also inspired a crappy short story that I wrote when I was all sad and depressed. XP
Taken at The Grand Canyon (seriously). I fixed up the picture by turning up the contrast a little bit in Photoshop because my camera sucks. (It's so bad now, that I have to slap it to get the lens to come out)
Edit: People are telling me that it's a raven.
Another Edit: This submission now has over 50 s! Wow. Just...wow. Thank you very much everyone!
And Yet Another Edit: Wow...now it's over 100 s? That's crazy! I can't believe people like it so much. Thanks guys!
Oh, and by the way. Please take note that this image is not supposed to be stock...
EDIT FIVE BILLION AND ONE: This image is now available on some products. Feel free to check it out, if you'd like. [link]
Ravens make an odd braying noise; reminds me of children wailing, in some eerie manner. No doubt about it being a corvid. When you say it was big it's almost positively a raven because crows, while a very cool critter, they're smaller in size and make a very commonly identified caw, since they seem to cluster EVERYWHERE. At least where I live they do. >_>;
This is a really awesome shot -- how close were you?
I'm a real corvid enthusist. Non-native Corvids actually, specifically hybrid Ravens that are all black, which can be bought and sold. There exists a cross breed between white necked ravens and brown necked ravens. Such a cross often produces a phenotype that's all black. It's just that there exists few breeders, and no matter what they're expensive, for exotic ravens as natives are illegal to keep, and for good reason: Carrion birds tend not to be cute and cuddly.
Ah well, you have here a fabulous image. It's got great contrast, fabulous pull and really does look like the bird seems to be, perhaps, mourning something. Or really interested in his toes. It's a very brooding image and reminds me of part of the stigma that travels with all corvid critters -- which really isn't all bad. It gives these birds a kind of power and emotion. You captured that so well.
Kudos!!

That is perhaps the best comment I have recieved so far! Just...oh my.
Heh, well...I think it is quite possible that it was a raven or corvid - Or is that the same thing? . It was only ther for a moment or so, I believe. (I took this months ago, heh.) Crows do tend to hang around in groups, don't they? I forgot about that.
Thanks! I was pretty close, actually! (My zoom can only go so far...) I'm not sure if you've been to The Grand Canyon or not, but in this one area that has lots of buildings here and there, there is a large look-out area so you can get different views of the canyon. Along some of the viewing area are some trees as well as other plants. I was standing a few feet or so from the edge of walkway. The tree stuck out a few feet away from it, so I was probably somewhere between 5-15 feet. That's just a guess, because I'm not very good at figureing that sort of thing out. Sorry.
You're a corvid enthusist? That's cool! I've never really thought about someone being one before, nor did I think about someone breeding and selling them. Wow, I don't know anything about birds. XD;
Thank you very much for your kind words! I wish I could critique like you! When it comes to commenting, I usually just go "Wow, that's cool!" and my "critiquing" is very limited. Probably because my knowledge on the subject is limited. A good critique from me is something like "Nice shaing!"
Your really are an amazing photographer O.o I'm debating weather to switch my awsome don hertfelt desktop for this image =O i'm in love with it!
Whenever i lookit my divientwatch thing i get really excited when i see something from you (or usually a bunch from you cause you add them all at once xD hehe) You live in a place where theres a bunch of neat stuff to take pictures of, thats for sure ^_^ wish i had lizards around >.<
Oh my this is quite lovely. The black of his feathers is so striking, especially in comparison to the pale purpley backdrop. You framed the bird perfectly! Wonderful job!
Thank you very much! ...*blinks*...Really? I've never had anyone interested in changing their wallpaper to one of my images before. That's so cool.
Heh, wow, you get excited to see my stuff? Thanks! I'm glad you like it! Yeah, I upload a bunch of stuff at once. Sorry about that! It's usually because I tend to save up photos for a while and then finally post them. Like...this picture for example. I took it when I was on a trip with my dad like in June or something.
Actually, I think the neat stuff stops at the lizards. XD; This bird was taken way far away from my house (about two days drive) and the only other thing I really take pictures of is my cats. I'm glad you think they are cool though. Sorry to hear you don't have any lizards...
